When I was growing up, I remember watching my mother and grandmother pulling opposite ends of a length of fabric to get the 'warp' out of it prior to cutting out a dress or whatever.
I usually check fabric when I move if from the washer to the dryer. If it's not true, I pull it diagonally this way, then that, until it folds almost perfectly.
