It is an old-fashioned adhesive in a small brown glass jar with a lid which has the brush stuck to the inside of the lid. It is grayish-transulcent and gooey, and is great for photographic projects or other paper-paste-ups. If you smear it outside the edges of the paper, when it dries you can rub it off. when it dries it looks rubbery. It has what are called volative compounds for drying purposes so don't breathe it in.
In fact I think they used to make it in a spray form for photography purposes. Wonder if they still do.
