Lots of work, yes, but really mindless--at least while sewing the strips together. It is good for the moments when you just want to produce. Of course, there is a bit of trimming after I sew the strips, and I do not enjoy trimming!

I like the idea of using a strong-colored sashing to help get a feeling of symmetry and order to an otherwise "unplanned" quilt.

I have a huge bag of crumbs I'd like to make up into several quilts, but crumbs take longer to make than just sewing strips together. This actually can be done pretty quickly compared to a crumb quilt.
