the pattern is a square, with rectangles between. At each end of the triangles, the quilter sewed two half square triangles to create the star points. For a sample, I would grab up a five inch square, four three inch rectangles (3x5), sewn to each side of the square and then a square (3x3) for the corners. From there, you should be good to go for a whole quilt.
