I've done this with great success. I make the original cut of the freezer paper 9 x 12. Then, I iron the fabric on. After the fabric is on, I cut it down to the 8 1/2" x 11".

TIP: I put a few sheets of paper under it before printing to help the printer grab it.

I've done this to make a scrap of fabric when I only needed a 2" square. Scanned and printed. :)
