Baffling to say the least. Also discovered about 100 yards of very old thread wrapped around the drive wheel. I was wondering if this was a way to keep the belt from slipping???

Judy beautiful cabinet! Yes, it is weird what happens to these old machines, but in over 100 years it is just amazing they can be fixed! I have found tons of thread wrapped around the hand wheel and around the hook/race. I always thought it was just an accident that the thread got there? Glad you solved the problem! Again that is a very pretty machine and cabinet.
