Ruth, you can layer then up, then trim away the backing fabric leaving 1/4" seam allowances to remove the bulk if you wish to. When using fusible you only need to cut out the part of the shape that will show PLUS an 1/8" to tuck under the adjacent piece, does that make any sense lol??

When I did the celtic flower in my sampler quilt, I made my own bias, is this what you mean by narrow??

This was a type of interwoven pattern, I slipped each piece under and over depending how the pattern called for
