I have a small to moderate stash that I'd like to use to make a scrap quilt. I bought a pattern for "Buckeye Beauty" which is pretty close to Eleanor Burns' "Jewel Box Quilt"

My stash is a pretty wonky mix. Lots of vibrant jewel tones - lots of blues - lots of country/autumn shades, and a mix of muted prints (civil war charm squares etc). Before I start chopping I need some feedback:
Should I buy more jewel toned batiks and have intense color throughout, or would mixing the bright and muted shades work?
Leave out the muted shades and use a mix of mediums and brights?
This stage is always the most nerve-wracking for me!

Argh! This pattern goes from 'long throw size' and the next largest is 'queen size' now I've got to try to figure out the requirements for a quilt midway between the two!
