If you strip piece first and then cross cut, you can make a cute rag rail fence in an afternoon. Believe me, I know! If you really want to hurry it up, make every second square just a plain square and rotate the rail fence squares. Looks really cute and goes together quickly. (says the person who is just now going to catch the plane to go and see her first grand child. I had to finish two quilts this week!!! And yet my daughter was pregnant for nine months! Go figure. )
