I had a foot pedal like that put on my Singer 328K bought in Nov. 1963 and I just got that machine out and the foot pedal is hard to get use to. I hope you have better luck with yours.
My Mom's 1948 singer that I first learned to sew on had a similar pedal, so it feels familiar!
