I bought one of those little plastic Handiquilt contraptions that you pin on your shirt. It has a recoiling elastic to which you fasten your little scissor for snipping threads. Pull on the scissor, bring it to the thread, snip, snip and it goes back to the holder. The demonstrator made it look very practical, so I bought it.
Well, if you let go of the scissor after snipping, the scissor flips back to the holder...very quickly, and rather dangerously. I'm sure in time the elastic eases up and there's no more fighting to pull the scissor to the snipping area, and by then you'll have learned to hold onto the scissor as you bring it back to the holder.
My scissor holder sits on my sewing table, and I'm out $5.
