I just bought a fixer upper from ebay & it has that prob plus a screw that I haven't been able to take out to remove the presser foot plate. I'm ready to drill it out! It is missing some other things that I can easily replace.
I haven't attempted it yet, but I've taken the face plate off and it looks like its just 3 screws and looks easy enough. I will have to remove the presser foot bar to get to one of them though. I just hope taking the old off and putting the new on doesn't mess up any timing, tension or cause any other issues. As soon as I get the part I'll give it a try and let you know. I should really take all parts internal and external off and cleaning it really good, but I'm so afraid of not getting it back together again. So, Im just going to get a few tooth brushes and clean as good as I can into all those little spaces and around those gears.
Ask around about taking that screw out, my husband has some sort of tool that can remove stripped screws, that sounds like it might be your problem.
