I do agree with you, they are ugly blocks, I don't think this pattern was meant to be so scrappy, the background fabrics need to be a solid, off white color to bring out the pattern.
Too many large prints, checks, for the small pattern pieces.
I would not waste anymore time or fabric making anymore blocks. Ugly blocks =an ugly quilt. Spend your time and fabric on a new project.
