I just finished my first minky quilt, didn't use batting, and the quilting stitches look kind of embedded - really cool effect! On my quilt tho I did some basic whipstitches (I prefer this to tying a quilt as I don't care for the yarn knots sticking out all over the place) and it turned out quite well. Your quilt looks great!
