Why do the binding by hand?
Because I love the look of it.
I enjoy doing the french fold binding (sewing to the front, flip it around and hand stitch in place on the back). To me it's clean, it's fresh and it's a nice way to end your journey with the quilt.
I get to sit for an hour and just relax, looking at the different colours, thinking of where this quilt will be going...etc. I try to take as much are with the binding as I do throughout the entire quilt, it's not a race or something to be rushed through to get it done.
It may sound whimsical but it's a way to say goodbye to my quilt.
