I like a 12" repeat minimum and staggered NOT parallel across the WOF, large motifs, limited colour palette (3 or 4 is ideal) and swirly patterns and not too much plain background. Having said all that, I have broken these rules successfully! So if you recommend a fabric as suitable for OBW, some will find it so and others not! Perhaps like MTS suggests, use the phrase as a keyword so it shows up in a search. Telling the length of the repeat and giving a pic with a ruler alongside for scale is enough to go on for me!
I don't know what you mean by 'waste' - if I buy six repeats of a 12" repeat fabric that would be 2 yards and I'd use all of it. I'd always buy a yard extra for borders or just to show in the backing. There's no 'waste'. :-D
