I have seen two beautiful necktie quilts made by a quilting friend. She used the log cabin pattern on one and courthouse steps on the other. She said the log cabin was the easier. Both were gorgeous! She did not wash the ties but took them apart, used the knit interfacing on the back and then cut out the pieces. Maybe your boss would be satisfied with a wall hanging or a lap quilt. I doubt that he realizes the amount of work with this project just to get ready. I saved my dad's neckties and just discovered that they are all polyester. Yuk! not as pretty as silk but I am going to give it a try.
