Any MD can prescribe it, because it is a FDA approved prescription drug, just prescribed at a much lower than normal dosage. Go to the website and read all the information. The optimum dose is 4.5 mg, and some gradually get to that after starting at 1.5 mg. I went right to the 4.5 because my symptoms were so bad I didn't want to mess around.
