Yes black fades, and as someone else said, different blacks fade at different rates even if they start out looking the same. 19 years ago, I made a quilt for my DGD with a lot of black and brights - Amish style. Didn't use the same black fabric throughout. The blacks faded at different rates. Wish I had a picture to show - it's quite startling.
Nineteen years ago the dyes and coloring processes were quite different than they are today. That's not to say different brands of black fabric today are all identical by a long shot, but I don't believe modern fabrics fade anywhere near as much as they used to even twenty years ago.
