I love my 301. It came with a case but no cabinet. I paid about $100 in working order & good visual condition as well. I'd grab it.
They really are a nice machine, with some of the good points of both the FW 221 (FW & 301 are aluminum body with same 221 bobbins-side loading, easier to change when you have a quilt on top) & the 401's (both 301/401 are gear driven, slank shank for easier viewing). The 301's are special in that you can drop the feed dogs for FMQ, unlike either of the other two machines.
Singers 401 & later involved raising the throat plate to prevent the fabric coming in contact with the feed dogs, rather than lowering the feed dogs. While I'm sure many have used them this way, you can see that having that hump to go over introduces a rise & fall of the fabric that might also introduce puckers more than if it were to lay flat on the bed. JMHO
I love my FW & 401 as well.
