I should have noted that the seams are on the inside of the cap. The fabric was probably a little longer than the width. Remember you should already have a hem on the shirt sleeve.

I thought of another use....you could sew the bottom together (raw edge) leaving 2 or 3 inches to cut into fringe, stopping 1/2 in. below the seam. Make little holes on each side and run cord through, pulling in opposite directions to close. This forms a little pouch or purse to match the skirts.
