We have woods right behind our house, and TONS of squirrels. We pretty much gave up on buying birdfeeders. They'd outsmart every single one.
We even put short lengths of PVC pipe on a clothes line, and hung the birdfeeder in the middle. Theoretically the squirrels would walk down the clothes line, and the PVC pipe would spin them right off. The little stinkers figured out how to jump straight to the birdfeeder, totally bypassing the clothesline itself.
I wouldn't mind the squirrels so much if they'd stop invading our attic. Every time DH figures out where they're coming in, and blocks them off, they find or make a new way in.
He's tried trapping them, but they're too smart. He finally parked himself on the back patio, and waited, BB gun in hand, for the attic invaders. One by one, he took out the "worst offenders" ... for now. :|
Like Arnold Schwarzenegger, they'll be back ...
