In the next town over from where I live they actually REMOVED the red light camera in March when the contract was up. Although the cameras brought in about a half million dollars in paid tickets they did not lower the numbers of crashes at the intersections the cameras were at.
In the three years PRIOR to the camera going up there were 169 accidents at two intersections where cameras were placed. From Jan 2008 to Nov 2010 there had been 152 accidents! accidents with injuries had a mere drop of two from 15 to 13 after the cameras!
