Your best bet is to go directly to an orthopedic surgeon who is a hand specialist. That is all they do, take care of hand problems and surgery is not always needed. You may have osteoarthritis or nerve issues due to your injury. Also, you may not need a primary care physician referral if you are on Medicare. One perk of Medicare is that you can pick your own specialist without having to get a referral from your primary.

I have had hand problems too and my orthopedic surgeon was recommended to me by an occupational therapist when I was undergoing hand therapy. Best recommendation I ever got.

Good luck and let all of us know how it works out for you.
