Forget what the batting requires in regard to the amount of quilting. It is the look you want and the amount you need for the pattern to give good stability. Also the use of the quilt. If a wallhanging, the batting can shift in hanging, if washed then might need more quilting for stability. If always used as a spread then less quilting because it doesn't get much hard use. I believe there should be a sufficient amount of quilting reqired for any of these reasons.
