once you have your blocks sewn together you can recycle sheets--i should think flannel for batting and cotton or even cotton/polyester blend for backing. if you need a thicker/warmer quilt how about a stained (but clean) blanket as batting. you've got me thinking green here and wondering if there is a company that makes recycled batting?
