I changed a son's room into my sewing room last year. We opted for a laminate flooring with the backing attached. We got it at Sam's Club, as I loved the cherry wood color they had.
My husband and I installed it! It went down very easily, and looks wonderful.
I use a Shark cordless stick type vacuum. It picks up all the stray thread and fabrics snips very easily. I have ceramic tile floors in my entry, dining room, kitchen and halls, and the vac makes a quick job on the tile as well as the laminate.
I did purchase rubber wheels for the chair rollers. They have them at stationery stores, and since my chair is from Ikea, they had the rubber wheels at their store also.
