Are you making stars or just blocks?

Because with blocks there are only the 4 blocks meeting in each corner, just like with squares. ;-)

The proportions below are height = 2x width.

If you like the shape below, then you can draw any template you'd want.

6"x12" would be a good size to do flip and sew. If your strips are under 2" wide, that would give you a nice selection on each diamond (going width-wise)

The way I would do it would be to cut the backing and batting oversized - like 8"x14" diamond shapes or rectangles.
I'd do the flip and sew, making sure I overlapped all the sides by at least 1/2" inch, if not more.

Depending on your level of confidence with the ruler, trim it .
OR trace the template on the back and trim.

Do not forget to add your seam allowances to the shape.

I'm a huge fan of QAYG, and enjoy all the different methods, although I do have my favorites. I love that you're trying something a outside the norm. thumbup:
I can't wait to see your progress.

Make all the diamonds and then you can deal with putting them together.
