take one of those "easy thread" needles... insert it into the top and wadding right at the base of the knot. twist the tied ends together and snap into the eye of the needle. Draw the threads through and out of the surface of the quilt and snip the excess. I pull the threads a little to get a pucker then when I snip the ends disappear back intot he sandwich.

Way easier than trying to thread the needle. you can also do it with fairly short threads if you have to.
