When I have it so the back and the front are both the 1/4", it is difficult for me to hold it when sewing and is very hard on my left wrist. Puts a big strain on it.

I also use the clips to hold it in place when sewing.
If you aren't already doing this, it might help: After your sew it to the front, press the binding out away from the quilt from the front side before you hand sew to the back. It folds over easier. I use the clips too...best invention!
