It's definitely the process for me too.
Seeing it all come together how it's supposed to.... or not! LOL
I've also made a memorial type wall hanging when a friend lost her little girl to cancer. While I was making it I realised I had no idea what I was going to do with the end product, it was purely the making of it that was therapeutic for me. The process was part of the healing. I did end up giving it to my friend, and she loved it.
