I saw a quilt Saturday at a shop near me where they had made the quilt kind of like a string-pieced block, only it was probably crib-quilt sized: 2.5" strips; backing and batting layered (probably I would use spray adhesive to hold them in place); then she started in the middle with one strip and sewed one to each side, progressively outward. The fabrics were a "set" == same design/different colors, kind of wild and loud - but the outcome was spectacular looking.
