This is what Mary McCloskey says in her book 'Blended Quilts.' "Chintz is a polished cotton usually containing large or medium florals in rich, elegant colorways. This fabric originated in India in the 17th century. Floral bouquet motifs suitable for blended quilts may be made of chintz or light weight cottons."

She uses it in her quilts and they are gorgeous. I used it in one quilt once and had no problem. The glaze does wear off but it doesn't matter.
