Years ago I was nuts about couponing - had a filing system in basement in which I kept UPC codes from boxes, box tops, bag labels, shampoo, paper products, anything that might one day become part of an offer (eg., "send in 3 UPCs from brand ..... product & receive a coupon worth $2.00 or cash back - I'd go pull out what I needed from the file). I actually saved oodles on our groceries, but back to work part time plus having 1 grown "child" (hubby) and 4 busy kids pushed it to the background.
Now most of what we eat (fresh, not processed foods, no package mixes, old fashioned oatmeal instead of packaged cereals, home-made bread, pasta, chili, spaghetti sauce from scratch, etc) precludes the coupons - seldom see organics or fresh fruit & veggie offers on coupons. Hubby hunts, so we eat wild game too.
But I know it can be a big savings if you buy the coupon items when you shop. It feels good to realize cash saved when coupons fit your needs.
