I have used this method and have experienced no problems. Material has to be washed,rinsed with no fabric softner. I then iron material, ( I use mostly muslin ) onto a freezer paper cut same size as copy paper, then feed into printer. Once pictures are printed, I heat set them with an iron for 3-4 minutes.
