I carry embroidery stuff and my daughter flys world wide and takes knitting needles with her on board. I take the Fiskars children's scissors and have never had an issue.
On a recent flight, my seat mate had a featherweight that she put in the overhead compartment.
I check my tool box for my miniature gatherings-xacto knives, blades, etc as well as screwdrivers. Also my good scissors, sharp ones.
