unless it is a wall hanging that never gets washed you only want to use a home dec fabric if it can be cared for the same as the rest of the quilt- if you use fabrics that should not be dry cleaned (like cotton) and then mix it with fabric that has to be dry cleaned....hmmmm seems a bit of a problem if it ever needs some cleaning.

having said that- i have used many home dec fabrics even for backs---
i wash them first (regardless of what the label says- if they go through the washer and the dryer and still look good i use them...if they don't come out so good- they get used for some other crafty project....unless i ruined it totally (that's never happened...but i guess it could)
