Since the nine patch could then have 3 1/2 inch squares or to put it another way, you would cut them at 4 inches and they would finish at 3 1/2 inches. So, 3 /12 plus 3/1/2 plus 3 1/2 would equal 10 1/2.
Thank you so very much. I am cutting 3 fabrics into 4" strips as you suggest. I have cut the strips out and have one strip sewed together. :)
This won't come out to be 50 x 50. When doing the DP9 you have to make one more cut through the middle of the block both ways (vertical and horizontal). You will end up with a smaller block. Just so you know. If you'd rather end up with a larger rather than smaller quilt you could add half blocks to each row of the quilt.
