Debs shelties: the 12 yards included backing and binding. Typically I use 5 yards for backing and this gives me plenty of extra fabric which I then make into binding or save for another project.
Oh ok, I guess each pattern is different then, the one I was looking at for a Queen Lone Star calls for almost 8 yards of backing fabric.
