I can't answer your question about using a 201 for FMQ (depends on whether you can cover or disengage the feeddogs)
but I do have one that I love to piece on. It is a strong, tough machine and I am convinced it would sew two asphalt shingles together. And please, even if it comes in a case, don't consider it a portable unless you're nickname is Bubba and you lift weights. My recollection tells me the K just indicates where it was made.
