I am 50 with the summers off and grown children. My DH happily supports my habits. It isn't controlling my life, but it sure is taking up a lot of my thoughts!
Sounds like you have a healthy view of quilting. Glad your DH supports you. so does mine. I'm 73 and having trouble with arthritis in my hands. this kind of puts a kink in my quilting at times. As far as thinking about it a lot. That's not a problem. I have so many quilts in my head, I'd have to live to be 100. most of them will never be made. Are you a teacher? My daughter, three granddaughters and one grandson who teach. enjoy your summer.
