I want to do something and need to Google it for a few ideas. I have no idea what to Google.

Let's say I have two layers of fabric. An upper that is blue and a lower that is white. I sew the white under the blue, stitching a design, like a star. Then I cut away the blue fabric, inside of the star. So you can see the white star and the blue frays slightly. Kind of like a window, reverse applique or something.
Is there a name for this technique?
Am I making any sense?!? :lol:
