It might be she was talking about the "Salwar kameez" which are the long top with pants that the women wear as well. These tend to be made out of silk or cotton (I think), so that is very cool and would make some beautiful quilts. Here is a link to a picture:

I actually like these outfits better than saris. I saw both sold in a shop in Samoa ( I think), which has a large Indian population.
