Did you try using a magnet? I keep a magnet near (on on machine) machine.

I agree, a magnet would help. And run it over the quilt also, just in case, both sides.
I have a huge one from my husband's work bench, I use it for dragging over the floor after sewing. I'm always dropping pins, and usually find them with my bare feet, or see a cat patting at one.
