If I'm understanding you correctly you are sewing the top, bottom and batting together around the outside edge than turning it inside out. This is called birthing or pillowcase style. It is difficult to do this and not get tucks. Click on this search results and you will find the "sandwich" and basting method then you quilt the quilt and put on binding.
