Totally curious on where you are using the vice grips in your quilting?
:-P LOL. I had to get my dad's little vice grips from his toybox - I mean TOOLbox - to hold the corners. I had no idea how to do corner binding (still don't, actually) and had a big bunch of material to hold together until I could google binding and corners. Since then, I also use them to hold my backing down to the ping pong table instead of tape when I sandwich.
Why are you having problems with corner binding.....do you need help or have you fingured that one out.
