I discovered my oldest son was colorblind when he was quite small, and I was tossing medium colored wash cloths on a medium blue bedspread, and suddenly he couldn't find them. They had to be sharply contrasting colors. Even the Army used him to spot camouflaged guns in a lot of trees.

I think if you make the quilt in sharply contrasting colors it will make him proud to have one of his own. Black and white are always in style, and you can add any color you want for accent.
