it was just plain old plywood....one that isn`t rough....very easy , just takes a bit of time

I created a hardwood looking floor in similar way at my camp ....on floor I drew lines with a Sharpie to look like a hardwood floor....even drew little circle where there would be nails....then put blue stain...let dry....put three coats of Clear Coat varnish ...and voila....a nice blue hardwood looking floor..7 yrs now and it still looks good....although another coat of varnish would refresh it a bit....also painted a carpet on the floor at the entrance before varnishing...everyone loves my floor...
