Hmmm I would go for the Janome if it has all the quilters attachment, little table and cary case. You can do everything on it fo rquilting and it does an awesome job both piecing and quilting.
I also love the Singer 301 but eventhough it is lighter then the black machines it is still a bit heavy. Also it does not do zig zag and I find it harder to quilt on. It is a wonderful machine though. Reading about your surgeries. I would definitely pass on this one for taking along. Eventhough I can move it around in the house I find it too heavy to take to class. I have joint and back issues.
Do you have to decide or can you get both?
