I use velcro now. I used to make purses and I used zippers but when I went to the smaller stuff the zippers started being made only in plastic and fewer and fewer in metal. I don't care for the plastic ones too much and the velcro is easier to do.
I have recycled zippers but then I would get ones that were sticky and that can be a pain to use soap or wax on them to get them to loosen up. I also had problems with the zipper breaking. The velcro is easier to replace by hand if you need to when it wears out which they do if you use it alot.
It 's all a matter of which you prefer. I teach the velcro because it is easier. Zippers freak some people out.
Anyone wants to learn to put zippers in I can teach it that way.
